Charles Darwin (Father of Evolution)

The Darwin family was wealthy and well-connected. His mother, who was the daughter of the China manufacturer Josiah Wedgwood, died when he was eight. His father was a doctor, while his paternal grandfather was Erasmus Darwin, a leading intellectual of 18th century England. He was raised by his older sisters. Education: Darwin studied for a medical career at Edinburgh University. He didn't complete the course but went to Cambridge University to study divinity where he developed a keen interest in natural science. About Charles Darwin: Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection completely changed our way of thinking. At the time it was commonly believed that God created the world in seven days, as described in the bible. He was able to explain that all species of life have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process he called natural selection. Robert Grant of the Grant Museum in London was a mentor to Darwin and one of the first to teach evolutionary ideas in England.
