Hey, I'm Keri Glassman here with some quick
and simple tips to help you feel just a little
bit better. Today is the last in my series
of five foods that will give your immunity
a boost, and for those of you who have been
paying attention, you've probably been wondering
“What about vitamin C?” Research shows
that increasing vitamin C can reduce the length
of a cold as well as severity of symptoms.
Vitamin C is an important nutrient for maintaining
the skin, which is your first line of defense
against invading microbes. Vitamin C may also
help increase your white blood cells, which
are in charge of protecting your body against
infection. My favorite source…drumroll please…of
Vitamin C is... Red bell peppers! They are
vitamin C monsters. They have twice the amount
as most fruits and vegetables that we associate
with vitamin C –- yes, even oranges. Half
a cup of red bell pepper contains one and
a half times your daily recommended intake.
So remember: Your first defense against sickness
is keeping your immune system in shape. Oranges
are great, but if you're looking for a vitamin
C boost, red bell peppers will help you feel
just a little bit better.
